A perfect end to an extraordinary evening: an intense hit of John Dowland’s art - in songs and works for viols that embody English melancholy. ‘Flow my teares’ and ‘In darkness let me dwell’ could never have been heard in a more apt setting than a medieval church as the light fades and candles are lit ‘to banish heavy sleep’.
