Telemann’s Subscribers

Michel Blavet (1700-1768), Bach, Handel

Telemann was not only one of the greatest composers of his time, but he was also a shrewd businessman. One of his most successful ideas was to launch a list of subscribers, which included members of the European aristocracy as well as fellow musicians and composers. Tonight’s programme includes works by some of the many 18th-century subscribers, and also two pieces for solo recorder by 21st-century subscribers, Colin Matthews and Alastair Penman.
