In 1599, Shakespearean actor/dancer Will Kempe morrisdanced from London to Norwich (a distance of over a hundred miles) in a journey that took him nine days, spread over several weeks. Steven Player, dancer, actor, comedian and musician, playing the part of Will Kempe, joins the The Society of Strange & Ancient Instruments for a celebration of this extraordinary event. Kempe’s parentage is unknown, but interestingly for us here in Kent, he has been linked with the Kempe’s of Olantigh, nr Wye.

Before the concert the Wantsum Morris Men will be dancing in the field by the Festival Marquee and will lead the audience into the church for the concert.

Sponsored by the Gow family in memory of Peter Gow
