‘Of loves and ladies, knights and arms, I sing, of courtesies, and many a daring feat’
From its first appearance in 1516, the knightly epic poem by Ludovico Ariosto has represented one of the most successful works in all Italian literature. The first half of this concert features a variety of settings of the poem by 16th century composers, Hoste da Reggio, Giaches de Wert, Cipriano de Rore, Andrea Gabrieli & Alessandro Striggio; the second half, a selection of extraordinary pieces from Gesualdo’s 6th Book of Madrigals.
