Spargite flores: Music from the Age of Monteverdi
works by Corradini, Palestrina, Grandi, Monteverdi & Merula
The Gonzaga Band was formed by cornettist Jamie Savan in 1997 in order to explore historical approaches to the performance of vocal and instrumental music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Performing first as ‘Il Vero Modo’ they were finalists in the York International Young Artists Competition in 2003, and appeared for the first time at Stour Music the following year. Soprano Faye Newton also appeared in last year’s festival as one half of the Duo Trobairitz, and as soloist in Haydn’s ‘Nelson’ Mass.
