Two Funerals and a Birthday
In this year of anniversaries, tonight’s programme, which includes works by Handel and Purcell, features especially four of the ‘original’ Brandenburg Concertos, written by Giuseppe Torelli in 1698, and dedicated to Sophie Charlotte, Electress of Brandenburg (also first Queen of Prussia) and sister of George I of England.
