Haydn and Boccherini: folk tunes
Various threads link this programme of Quartets and Quintets by Schmelzer, Biber, Haydn and Boccherini. The Bach Players is a collective of players formed in 1996 to play Bach cantatas with small forces. In recent years they have begun to explore the work of other composers, especially Haydn’s chamber music – both in connection with Bach and with other composers and themes. This concert connects Haydn and Boccherini to Schmelzer and Biber through their common links to Austria; and it explores the inspiration of folk tunes for all these composers.
