Bolivian Baroque music from the Chiquitos and Maxos Indians
The music from the Missions in Bolivia has its roots firmly in Europe. It was the Jesuit missionaries from Italy, France and Switzerland who helped inspire local musicians to write works for performance in Church services. The music is certainly not jungle music; however, many of the vocal works have an infectious dance quality we associate with mid-European baroque music and the virtuosity of many of them is surprising.
